Annual Fund Raising Event Featuring Bunun Cultural
Troupe
TAFSD/TACC's annual fundraising event will be held
at 3pm on Sunday, November 10, in the TACC auditorium. The purpose
of this event is to raise funds to support TACC operation. This
year, we are inviting The Bunun Cultural Troupe to present a special
performance, called "Voice in the Valley".
The Bunun Cultural Troupe consists of people from
the aboriginal Bunun tribe of Hsinyi Rural Township, Nantou County.
Bunu tribe people make their living primarily by cultivating fruits
and vegetables, and their culture and arts are inseparable from
their daily activities. Thus, the performances of the Bunun Cultural
Troupe usually take a natural, simple, and pure form that reflects
in their lifestyles.
In strong contrast to other aboriginal tribes,
the Bunun people have very little dance music. Nevertheless, they
have marvelous talent for music, especially singing. When ribe people
gather, they sing and harmonize music that expresses all aspects
of their lives. The main characteristic of their music is "improvised
polyphonic singing", which is one of the most studied elements
by musicologists. In this style, each singer attentively listens
to the others in order to achieve the most harmonious tune. To share
with the whole world, they have translated the genuineness and beauty
of the traditional Bunun culture for the modern stage through an
artistically designed musical presentation.
TAFSD/TACC cordially invites everyone to attend
this fundraising event, which will also feature silent and live
auctions and a dinner banquet at Emerald Chinese Seafood Restaurant.
Of particular interest, one of the Bunun musical instruments, Ma
Turtur, will be auctioned. The fundraising ticket is $300 per person
or $3,000 for a table of ten people. For more information, please
call TACC at 858-560-8884.
