Shih Lin
Lan Chinese Art Exhibition
Taiwanese American Community Center (TACC) will be presenting a Chinese
Painting Exhibition by the artist Mr. Shih Lin Lan from October 5th
through October 31st. The admission is free. The opening reception
will be held on October 5th, 2003, Sunday, 3 PM at TACC.
Mr. Lan graduated from Shanghai’s Xinhua Art Institute in the
1930’s. He studied under master painters including Zhu Wenyung,
Pan Tianshou and Wang Yiting; blended the styles of masters Wu
Changsuo, Qi Baishi and Ren Ponian, and developed his own style.
In 1945, Mr.
Lan went to Taiwan and worked as a civil servant to build social
infrastructure. During this period, he came to know the holy Taoist
Miaozhenzi from whom he studied Taoism and developed a profound
understanding of Taoism. When Mr. Lan painted during his leisure,
he was able to
meld the essence of Tao into his painting. Mr. Lan held two public
exhibitions in Taiwan; both drew enormous accolades. After Mr.
Lan immigrated to U.S., he continued to practice Tao, which enhanced
his ability to perfect and consummate his painting style - his
paintings
of landscape, birds and flowers exude elegance and grace, and his
calligraphy and poetry sublime and true. Over the years, he had
accumulated over one hundred works.
