Night - “Onmyoji I”
Taiwanese American Community Center (TACC) is pleased to present “Onmyoji,”a Japanese film directed by Takita Yojiro. With English subtitle, the film will be shown at 7 PM, Saturday, August 28th, 2004. The admission is free and open to the public. Here’s a brief summary of the movie:
“Onmyoji” is based on a series of popular Japanese stories with the same title. The story of the film begins in 794 when the Japanese imperial capital is moved to Heian-kyo and thus initiated the 400-year Heian Period. It is a time when ghosts, spirits, and humans co-exist. The people who hold the balance between the world of the spirits and that of humans are known as “Onmyoji.” The emperor of the time depends on a particular Onmyoji named Seimei for protection and friendship. Jealousy makes a destructive appearance in the kingdom, as the empress is about to give birth. To prevent total chaos from taking place, Seimei stands up against his teacher, Doson, but is it too late?
